Exclusive: Reading agree deal to sign Hull City’s Matty Jacob

Reading have agreed a deal to sign Hull defender Matty Jacob on loan, sources have told Football Insider.

A number of clubs have expressed an interest in Jacob, but Reading have moved to agree a deal for the 24-year-old left-back.

Jacob is keen on a move away in search of regular first-team football and Hull are happy for him to go out on loan.

Last season, the Englishman started just four times in the Championship for the Tigers, and he didn’t feature in any of the last 16 games of the campaign.

Reading secure out-of-favour Jacob on loan

Jacob, who came through the Hull academy, will add some defensive stability to Noel Hunt’s side ahead of the upcoming campaign.

After narrowly missing out on the League One play-offs last term, Reading are looking to mount a promotion push next season.

The Royals are aiming to get back into the Championship for the first time since they were relegated from the division back in 2023.

Back at the start of May, Reading received a huge boost as they were bought by former Wycombe Wanderers owner Rob Couhig, ending the controversial tenure of Dai Yongge.

The feel-good factor is back at the Madejski Stadium, and with new signings coming in, supporters will be optimistic going into 2025/26.
