
Exclusive: Reading respond to Charlie Savage bid from Oxford United
Reading have rejected a £500,000 bid from Oxford United for Charlie Savage, sources have told Football Insider.
It is understood that the Royals’ valuation of the 22-year-old central midfielder is a lot higher.
Reading manager Leam Richardson regards the Wales international as an important player in his squad as they look to win promotion back to the Championship this season.
So far this season, the midfielder has played 27 times in all competitions, scoring twice and collecting one assist.

Charlie Savage continues to be of interest to Championship outfits
Football Insider revealed in the summer that Savage was wanted by multiple Championship outfits after an impressive 2024-25 campaign.
However, Reading managed to hold onto the 22-year-old, with the Royals currently ninth in the table.
- Savage joined Reading in 2023 after previously progressing through Man United’s academy
- Since then, the midfielder has been capped by Wales twice
- Now, Savage is wanted by Oxford United after continuing to impress in League One
The Wales international has emerged as one of the most promising players in League One after joining the the Royals’ for the 2023-24 season.
Now, Oxford United, who have recently appointed Matt Bloomfield after they sacked Gary Rowett, have entered the race as the U’s aim to stay in the Championship.

It remains to be seen if Oxford United make another bid for Savage as the end of the January transfer window edges closer.
How good is Savage?
According to Fotmob on 15 January, the midfielder has plenty of eye-catching stats this season.
To date, he is averaging 1.56 chances created, 1.70 shots and a 100 per cent successful dribble rate per game in League One this season.
On top of this, he can also help out defensively, averaging 2.23 tackles and 4.29 recoveries each match.
