Exclusive: Robinson drools over Tottenham fringe player set for ‘Huge boost’ under Mourinho

Paul Robinson gushed about Tottenham defender Juan Foyth and claimed Jose Mourinho would utilise him more between now and the end of the season.

Speaking exclusively to Football insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Spurs keeper shared the 21-year-old was set for a huge boost under the Mourinho if the manager was set to stop him going out on loan.

It was recently reported that Foyth was open to going out on loan to play regular football but that he is likely to stay due to Mourinho having been impressed with him.

Robinson explained that he thought the Argentinian enforcer was very versatile and suggested he could be the solution to the club’s problem at right-back.

When asked about Foyth looking set to stay as Mourinho has been impressed, Robinson told Football Insider: “Right-back has been a problem for Spurs this year so I don’t think Jose will be in a rush to get rid of him.

“He can play anywhere across the back-four, including right-back, he can play centre-half and while Mourinho hasn’t seen enough of him in games, he’s seen enough of him in training not to let him go.

“I think to have Foyth in your squad, covers all bases if you like, he’s a versatile player and I think he has done well at right-back especially when it comes to his defensive qualities.

“He may not offer you much going down the wing, but he makes you more secure defensively.

“Every player wants to be playing, and a new manager brings new opportunities, and if he has said he wants him to stay then it’s a huge boost for him.

“And as I’ve said his versatility and ability to play across the back four will certainly help Jose between now and the end of the season.”

The Argentinian centre-back has been on the fringes of the Spurs squad this season with him making only six appearances across all competitions.

Foyth has been with the North London club since 2017 and is contracted to stay with them until 2022.
