Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar would be an "excellent signing" for Tottenham as the possibility of a deal edges closer.

That is according to Paul Robinson, the former White Hart Lane number one speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, as he tipped the 25-year-old to form a "formidable" partnership with Toby Alderweireld.

Skriniar, who has made 128 appearances for the Serie A giants, has three years remaining on his contract at the San Siro having renewed terms in May 2019.

He rose to prominence at Sampdoria before making a £30million move to Inter Milan in the summer of 2017.

When asked by Football Insider if Skriniar was the missing piece of the jigsaw for Mourinho, Robinson said: "They have needed a centre-half for a long time.

"Skriniar would be an excellent signing. He is a top class centre-half who has a lot of experience. He is not just a very, very strong defender - he can play as well.

"A partnership between him and Alderweireld would be seriously formidable."

Full-backs Danny Rose, Serge Aurier, and back-up centre-back Juan Foyth are the most likely to depart before the 5 October transfer deadline.
