Exclusive: Sam Walker agrees Bradford City deal
Bradford City goalkeeper Sam Walker has agreed a new deal to extend his stay at the League One new boys, sources have told Football Insider.
Walker’s existing deal was due to expire at the end of this month, but the club have moved to tie the keeper down to new terms.
The 33-year-old was a virtual ever-present last season, making 52 appearances across all competitions as he helped the club win promotion from League Two.
A product of Chelsea‘s youth academy, the Gravesend-born stopper arrived at Valley Parade in January 2024 following a short spell at Charlton Athletic.
Bradford indebted to Sam Walker influence
Walker was instrumental in City’s success as they sealed promotion in the most dramatic fashion last month.
A late final-day victory over Fleetwood Town, thanks to a 96th-minute winner from Antoni Sarcevic, sent the Bantams faithful delirious as they returned to League One after a six-year absence.
Season | Appearances (all comps) | Clean Sheets |
23/24 | 20 | 7 |
24/25 | 52 | 17 |
Vital to that victory was Walker’s first-half save that kept out a Matty Virtue effort, before Sarcevic’s fairytale ending sparked wild scenes in West Yorkshire.
Though he spent the early part of his career at Stamford Bridge, the 6ft 6in keeper was loaned out on no fewer than six occasions before leaving the Blues in 2014 with a permanent move to Colchester United.

Bradford City eye Joe Wright free transfer
Meanwhile, Bradford are reportedly one of a number of clubs with an interest in signing former Doncaster Rovers and Huddersfield Town defender Joe Wright.
According to a report in The Yorkshire Post (5 June), Wright is out of contract after a spell north of the border with Kilmarnock and is now free to speak to interested parties.
The 30-year-old came through Huddersfield’s academy but never made it off the first-team bench at the John Smith’s Stadium.
