Exclusive: Some Celtic players want to spite Rangers, others don’t care about 10-in-row -claim

Danny Mills has claimed there will be an “immense incentive” for the likes of Scott Brown to win a tenth consecutive title with Celtic but some players at the club will not be too bothered.

The former Leeds and Manchester City full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed there will be motivation to win 11 in a row with Rangers fans questioning the legitimacy of this season’s win.

The Hoops have been crowned champions for the ninth time in a row, equalling their feats between 1965 and 1974, as well as their Old Firm rivals Rangers between 1988 and 1997.

However, no team in the history of Scottish football has won the top-flight title on 10 consecutive occasions and next season Neil Lennon’s side will be gunning for that accolade.

Mills claimed the making history will not matter to most but for Scott Brown, and other players who support the club, it will provide extra motivation.

“I think if next season they won their tenth in a row Rangers will say, “That is only nine in a row,” he told Football Insider.

“The incentive now is to win 10 and then 11 in a row to makes sure that you eclipse that. That might give them a bit of extra incentive to go on and win the next few titles.

“There will be players like Scott Brown who it will mean the world to, to get one over on Rangers and that incentive will be immense for them.

“But it is not the be-all and end-all for most players. Unless the club means something to them then there will be something just as important elsewhere.”

Callum McGregor confirmed he would stay at Parkhead to compete for next season’s title.

McGregor, as quoted by the Daily Record, said: “We were desperate to get nine in a row and now we can put all our energy into trying to finish the job.”
