Exclusive: St Mirren agree Jake Young deal after medical passed
St Mirren have agreed a deal to sign Stevenage forward Jake Young in a permanent move, sources have told Football Insider.
Young has passed his medical at St Mirren and is expected to seal the move to the Scottish Premiership club later this week.
The 24-year-old found himself down the pecking order at Stevenage this season, and St Mirren have moved to offer him a switch to Scotland.
Stevenage are pushing for the play-offs in League One, but the striker has been limited to just 63 minutes of league football so far this term.
Jake Young’s record in the EFL
St Mirren are in need of goals if they are to survive relegation from the Scottish Premiership, and they will be hoping that Young can provide them in the second half of the season.
Stephen Robinson’s side have managed just 16 strikes since the start of the 2025-26 league campaign, a tally which is lower than every other club in the division.
The Saints will look to Young’s 2023-24 campaign with Swindon Town as evidence that he has the potential to bring the firepower that they need.
The 24-year-old notched 16 goals and four assists for the Robins in just 25 games in League Two, before he was recalled by Bradford City in a move that derailed his season.
Young hardly featured for the Bantams before he was sold to Stevenage in the summer of 2024, and he managed just four goals in League One last season.

That spell at Swindon currently stands as something of an anomaly in his stats, as it is one of just two campaigns in his career where he has surpassed five league goals in the EFL.
St Mirren set for pivotal Premiership run
St Mirren face a trip to Hearts on Wednesday, in what is a daunting proposition for Robinson’s men.
The visitors will not be expected to take anything away from Tynecastle against the table-topping Edinburgh outfit, but their trip to the capital is followed up by some crucial clashes at the foot of the table.
A huge meeting with bottom club Livingston is next on the agenda in league action, while games against Dundee United and Dundee FC follow that.
Four of their next six league games see them meet sides who also occupy a place in the bottom six of the league table, and as a result, it looks set to be a potentially pivotal run of games in their relegation fight.
With that in mind, additions like Young will be hugely welcome between now and the end of the window.
