Exclusive: Sunderland ready new move for Leicester City’s Abdul Fatawu

Sunderland are readying a January move for Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League club have held a long-term interest in 21-year-old and explored a move for the attacker in the summer window.

Bournemouth have also been credited with an interest in Fatawu as they seek a replacement for Antoine Semenyo.

Fatawu has started every Championship game for Leicester this season, scoring five goals and providing seven assists.

Abdul Fatawu continues to be linked to the Premier League

Fatawu has consistently been linked with a Premier League move since Leicester City’s relegation.

In the summer, Everton as well as the Black Cats were eyeing a move for Fatawubut a move never materialised.

Nevertheless, with Sunderland on the hunt for a winger this January, their interest in the Leicester star has been been reignited.

The Black Cats are in surprise contention to qualify for European football this season after a brilliant start currently sees them 10th in the Premier League upon their return to the top-flight.

However, it remains to be seen if Regis Le Bris acquires the star this time around.

How good is Fatawu?

Fatawu has been in fine form for Leicester City so far this season.

According to Fotmob on 16 January, the winger is averaging 0.21 goals and 0.29 assists per game in the Championship this season.

On top of this, the 21-year-old has proven to be an astute dribbler, averaging 2.71 each match, with a 42.9 per cent completion rate.

Defensively, Fatawu can also help out as well. So far, he is averaging 6.45 duels won and 4.56 recoveries each match as Leicester look to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.
