Exclusive: Swansea City set sights on Kyogo Furuhashi after Celtic twist

Swansea City are plotting a move for Birmingham striker Kyogo Furuhashi, sources have told Football Insider.

The Welsh side are keen to bolster their attacking options before the close of the window, and the 31-year-old striker is a player on their wanted list.

The Blues are willing to listen to offers for the Japan international in the final 10 days of the January window.

Kyogo, who was linked with a move to former club Celtic earlier in the window, has struggled to establish himself at Birmingham.

Kyogo Furuhashi’s transfer to Birmingham City has not worked out

Despite Kyogo’s move to St Andrew’s Stadium being met with plenty of optimism in the summer, it has quickly become clear that it hasn’t worked out.

The attacker has only netted once in the Championship to date for the Blues, with this coming in last week’s 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

This is despite the appearance making 25 appearances in the second tier to date this campaign.

With Birmingham City aiming for promotion this season, the Japan international’s poor tally in front of goal has helped cause the Blues’ drop down the table to 13th.

However, there is still plenty of time for Chris Davies to turn their form around and reach the playoffs.

How poor has Kyogo been this season?

According to Fotmob on 24 January, Kyogo has underperformed his xG by 4.36 in the English second tier this campaign, with the striker possessing a series of disappointing stats.

On top of this, he is only creating 0.36 chances, completing 0.36 successful dribbles and having 4.54 touches in the opposition box per 90 minutes.

Shots 2.91
xG0.49

Touches in opposition box 4.54
Kyogo has some terrible stats so far this season

This is a massive crash in form compared to his Celtic days, where the attacker netted 19 goals in all competitions in his final full season at the Scottish giants.

Now it appears Swansea will attempt to reignite his form at the Hoops as they eye the Blues player.

The Welsh side are in need of an attacker after Swansea dropped out of the race for Crystal Palace’s Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, with Stoke City now targeting the youngster.

However, it remains to be seen if the Welsh side are able to return Kyogo to form, with Vitor Matos’ side currently struggling in the table in 16th position.
