Exclusive: The only two Newcastle players safe from the axe named amid big Sky update
Paul Robinson has claimed only Martin Dubravka and Allan Saint-Maximin are safe from a mass overhaul at Newcastle United if the prospective takeover is completed.
The former Spurs and Leeds number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, identified Dubravka, 31, as one of the league’s top keepers whilst suggesting Saint-Maximin, 23, just gets “better and better”.
According to Sky Sports, the Premier League’s Owners’ and Directors’ Test is now the only aspect of the PCP Partners takeover still to be finalised.
As revealed by Football Insider the prospective new owners have big ambitions and plan to invest £200million into the club’s recruitment and infrastructure.
Robinson expects heavy investment into the Magpies attack but admits every player’s future is uncertain under new ownership.
“They have got a solid goalkeeper in Dubravka,” he told Football Insider.
“He is outstanding. He is the best of the rest in the Premier League.
“There is the top bracket of Alisson, Ederson and De Gea but he is the top of the group underneath them. He has done really well since he has been there.
“But when that kind of investment comes into a club every position is under threat. When a player becomes available and a manager sets his sight on a target…
“They will invest heavily in the forward area. Almiron has improved but I think only Allan Saint-Maximin and Dubravka can rest easy if the investment comes in.
“Saint-Maximin has just got better and better. If he was surrounded by other talent it would be an exciting prospect.”
Dubravka put pen to paper on a new six-year deal at St. James’ Park last October and given his impressive performances this season his future appears almost certain.
Saint-Maximin has quickly become a fans’ favourite on Tyneside since his summer arrival from Nice.
The winger has scored three goals in 21 appearances this season.
