Tottenham are putting the finishing touches to the signing of midfielder Alfie Devine after having a £500,000 bid accepted by Wigan Athletic, Football Insider can reveal.
This site first broke the news this morning that Devine, 15, was headed to Spurs to undergo a medical.
A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that the club have agreed a free with Wigan and the player has been tying up personal terms at their Hotspur Way training base.
The Premier League club are confident of tying up a deal in the next 24 hours for one of English football’s most highly-rated teenagers.
Spurs have swooped for Devine as Wigan look to cash in on their prize assets.
The Championship club were placed into administration earlier this month and are set for a fire sale of their most valuable players.
Devine is among those given his growing prominence in age-group football.
The wonderkid, who joined Wigan after being released by Liverpool, starred for Wigan in their FA Youth Cup run this season where they beat Spurs 2-0 and has already played for the club’s Under-23s.
He has also been capped by England at Under-16 level and is regarded as a Premier League and international star of the future.
Tottenham are set to initially nurture Devine in their flourishing Under-23s set-up.
The Londoners have a clear pathway for the youngster before eventually planning to bring him into their first-team squad.
