Noel Whelan has urged Tottenham to cash in on record signing Tanguy Ndombele just a year after his arrival in north London.

The former Leeds and Middlesbrough striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, claims the 23-year-old has “done nothing” for the north Londoners this season.

As revealed by Football Insider at the start of the week, Daniel Levy has no plans to let the France international leave and has faith he will come good for Jose Mourinho’s men.

The Lilywhites’ stance has not changed despite what the board believe to be an orchestrated effort from Ndombele’s camp to force his way out of north London.

Whelan does not believe the midfielder has the work ethic to succeed in England and has urged Spurs to get rid as soon as possible.

Whelan told Football Insider: “Look, I don’t like these sort of players, they need to be sold. He’s done nothing since he came to Tottenham, quite frankly.

“He had that debut where he scored a goal but after that, clearly, he doesn’t have the work rate that Jose Mourinho or the Premier League demands to become a special player.

“It’s different in France when you’re playing there, it’s a different style and different pace – not as good players there so you can stand out. Does he stand out in the Tottenham side in every game that he plays? Not really.

“There’s certain things that you demand and the first thing you look for is character and can you fit into a squad? You’ve just gone and seen Liverpool win the championship with a tight-knit group, they’re all friends, they all work hard, in the midfield area there’s not one that doesn’t put themselves about.

“Now he’s shown he can’t do that and with those sort of players in the side, you’re not going to challenge for the Premier League title.”

Ndombele has scored two goals and contributed two assists in 19 league appearances this season, though he has been left as an unused substitute for the first two games since the restart.

The club spent an initial £54million to secure his capture from Lyon last summer.

In other Tottenham news, it can be REVEALED that the club have been given big hope of signing 26-year-old desperate to join them.
