Exclusive: Tottenham ready move to sign 23-yr-old to replace Pedro Porro

Tottenham are readying a move for Greek international Georgios Vagiannidis as a potential replacement for Pedro Porro should they lose him this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The likes of Fulham, Everton, Leeds and Sporting Lisbon have all been credited with an interest in Panathinaikos right-back Vagiannidis, and now Europa League finalists Tottenham have joined the chase for the defender.

Tottenham are bracing themselves for interest in Porro this summer, and they have identified Vagiannidis as a possible replacement following his impressive form for club and country in the last few seasons.

The 23-year-old, who came through the ranks at Panathinaikos, was bought by Inter Milan in the summer of 2020 before returning to the Greek giants a year later.

Tottenham seek defensive reinforcements

Vagiannidis is not the only defensive target that Daniel Levy has this summer, with an overhaul on the cards in North London.

Former Spurs chief scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider that Tottenham are in the race to sign Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth.

Tottenham have conceded the sixth-most goals in the Premier League

Ange Postecoglou’s side have conceded 57 goals in the league this season, which is the sixth worst record in the whole of the Premier League.

Spurs have also been ravaged by injuries at the back, so it comes as no surprise that they are interested in the likes of Huijsen and Vagiannidis.

Tottenham need Europa League success

Tottenham progressed through to the final of the Europa League by beating Bodo Glimt 5-1 on aggregate, and will face fellow domestic strugglers Man United in the final.

The prize of Champions League football awaits the winners of the contest, with Spurs desperate to secure their return to the top tier of European football so they don’t miss out on summer transfer targets.

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Marcus Rashford would only consider joining Tottenham if they were in the Champions League next season, and even then it would be a “difficult” deal to do.

Regardless of whether their interest in Rashford materialises, Spurs have to be competing against the best in Europe if they want to attract star talent.

If they lose the Europa League final in Bilbao, it would drastically reduce their chances of having a successful transfer window.
