Exclusive: West Ham offer deal to Elisha Sowunmi

West Ham have offered rising star Elisha Sowunmi a professional contract as they look to ward off growing interest in the attacker, sources have told Football Insider.

Sowunmi, 17, is highly-regarded at West Ham and his goalscoring exploits have brought him onto the radar of a number of the Premier League’s top guns.

The skilful attacker enhanced his reputation with a brilliant hat-trick against Aston Villa’s Under-18’s last week and the Irons want to secure his future on a professional deal.

He can play both on the left and right as well as in an attacking midfield role.

Sowunmi signed scholarship terms at West Ham ahead of the 2023-24 campaign and was a regular feature for the Irons’ Under-18 side last term, hitting three goals.

He also featured once for the Under-21 side in Premier League 2.

However, the young forward has made nine starts in the Under-18 Premier League this term and has already bagged 10 goals as he takes the next step in his development.

Sowunmi could join the likes of Declan Rice, Ben Johnson, Josh Cullen and Grady Diangana in graduating from West Ham’s famous academy to the senior squad.

The Irons’ youth setup has been among England’s most successful in recent years with their Under-18 side winning the FA Youth Cup in the 2022-23 campaign.
