Exclusive: Wolves make decision on Vitor Pereira’s future

Wolves are currently not considering sacking manager Vitor Pereira following a poor start to the season, sources have told Football Insider.

Pereira signed a new deal at Molinuex last month, which seemed to be a vote of confidence from the board, despite the club’s disastrous form.

After seven games of the campaign, Wolves sit rock bottom of the Premier League, and have picked up just two points.

The Old Gold travel to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland in their first game back after the international break, as they look to kickstart their season.

Vitor Pereira has credit in the bank at Wolves

Sources say that Pereira’s job is safe for the time being, as he has credit in the bank from last season, but that the current situation cannot continue for much longer.

The hierarchy at Wolves will not be rushing into a decision, and believe the Portuguese manager is the right man to guide them away from the relegation zone.

One factor playing into Pereira’s favour is the loss of his two most important players during the summer transfer window, which gives him a bit of leeway in terms of bad results.

Matheus Cunha completed a £62million switch to Manchester United after scoring 15 Premier League goals for Wolves last season, leaving a gaping hole in attack.

To make matters worse for Pereira, he also saw star wing-back Rayan Ait-Nouri join Manchester City.

Pereira’s new contract is results-dependent

Pereira’s new deal is clear proof that the board are still very much behind him, and backing him to keep the club in the Premier League.

However, the three-year contract extension will be rendered useless if the 57-year-old cannot turn things around at the Midlands side.

At the end of the day, results dictate, and Wolves cannot continue to lose matches if they want to preserve their Premier League status.

After they travel to Sunderland, the Old Gold face Burnley at home, and failure to win either of those two games will see heavy pressure build on Pereira.
