Expert: Antonio Conte has silenced critics after ‘surprise’ Tottenham move
Antonio Conte’s tactical switch as Tottenham beat Brighton at the weekend was a message to his critics.
That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Tottenham beat Brighton 1-0 on Saturday after failing to win their previous two games.
Conte switched to a 3-5-2 formation for the first time this season, starting Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son as out-and-out strikers.
Wenham insists the win will silence some of Conte’s doubters.
“We finally saw the 3-5-2 against Brighton and we saw Bissouma which was fantastic to see,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Doherty came back into the side as well after Conte’s comments on him through the week. He said he didn’t want to lose but Conte played him anyway.
“Sessegnon came back in as well so he is now in a full rotation with Ivan Perisic which makes sense with the number of games we have to play this season.
“The 3-5-2 worked really well, we were on the front foot for once which might have surprised a few people. That’s a message to the people who say we are defensive and just keep the ball, we were on the front foot.
“It was a very good first half and the goal came from a Son-Kane linkup.

“We also had a lot of chances to win that game by a few more goals but the end product wasn’t there.
“Brighton did very little which was a bit of a surprise after a 3-3 draw with Liverpool.”
