Expert baffled by Celtic snub after latest from Sky
Frank McAvennie can’t understand why Celtic Park was not included in the provisional list of stadiums for the UK and Ireland’s Euro 2028 bid.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said the only reason for not including Parkhead would be if the club did not want games to be played there.
As reported by Sky Sports (16 November), the UK and Ireland submitted a bid to host the tournament with a shortlist of 14 stadiums.

The list featured ten English stadiums including Wembley, Villa Park, Everton Stadium, London Stadium, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Etihad, St James’ Park, Old Trafford and the Stadium of Light.
The only Scottish stadium included in the list was Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
Although 14 stadiums have been included on the shortlist, a final list of just ten stadiums will be submitted to UEFA in April 2023.
Parkhead and Ibrox were notable omissions from the list, particularly given Celtic Park’s 60,411 capacity compared to Hampden’s 51,866.
McAvennie couldn’t believe that Paradise was not included on the shortlist.
“Celtic has the best stadium in Scotland so I do not get it,” he told Football Insider.

“Hampden is iconic but it is run down now, it needs fixed and brought into the 21st century.
“Ibrox is a bit of the same. Why they did not want Celtic Park I do not know. Maybe the club did not want it.“
