Expert can’t believe Lionel Messi’s ‘amazing’ claim about Tottenham player

Lionel Messi’s latest commetns on Tottenham star Cristian Romero are “amazing”.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Romero, 24, started as Argentina progressed to the last eight of the World Cup by beating Australia 2-1 on Saturday (3 December).

As quoted by FIFA after the game, when asked who deserved the man of the match award, Messi said, “it is difficult to mention a specific player, but if I have to mention a player, it is Cuti Romero.

The PSG star went on to say “he [Romero] is prominent and experienced on the field”.

Wenham insists Romero’s friendship with Messi could be priceless to his development at Tottenham.

“The comments were really interesting,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“If you look, when Messi scores the first goal it was Romero who had the longest hug with him. They must have a really good friendship from what I can gather.

“Tha must be an amazing thing to hear for Romero, to hear Messi say those things. Even though he is your teammate, he is still Messi.

“They are always celebrating together. Romero started the tournament really poorly in that game against Saudi Arabia so it’s really great to see him re-establish himself in the side.

“This is a side that I think has a really good chance of winning the competition as well so I am hoping we add another World Cup winner to our squad to go along with Huge Lloris.”

Romero missed the end of the first period of the 2022-23 league season through injury.

He has only made 13 club appearances so far this season.
