Expert can’t believe what he’s heard at West Ham about Gianluca Scamacca – ‘ mockery’
Noel Whelan has claimed striker Gianluca Scamacca needs time and perseverance at West Ham before he can show his best side.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed selling the 23-year-old on in the near future would “make a mockery” of the Irons’ transfer policy.
According to journalist Ciro Venerato (via AreaNapoli, 29 November), Napoli are monitoring Scamacca’s situation after his tricky start to life at the London Stadium.

The nine-time Italy international only signed for West Ham in July – with the Irons paying Sassuolo a reported £35.5million for his signature.
Scamacca has since scored six goals in 21 games – just two of which have come in the Premier League.
The Hammers’ lack of firepower has been exposed this season with David Moyes’ side sitting 16th in the table – just one point above the relegation zone.
When asked if he thought Scamacca could yet come good for West Ham, Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I do.
“He’s a big player but he’s got the strength and mobility.
“He just needs games. When you come into a new country, a new environment, a new system – you need to persist and stick with players like him.
“It’s the same for most players. Nunez had to find out a little about himself and the Premier League before he really got started.
“I do believe he needs time. I can’t believe they would be considering letting him go already.

“If they did sell him on, it would make a mockery of their transfer policy. They’ve got to try and make it work.
“That comes from good man management from David Moyes, and putting the faith in him to lead the line.”
