Expert can’t believe Wilfried Zaha latest from Chelsea – ‘it doesn’t sit right with me’
Noel Whelan has claimed Wilfried Zaha would not be the “right fit” for Chelsea as they explore a late move for the forward.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Blues are in need of strengthening elsewhere in their strike force.
According to The Guardian journalist Ed Aarons (28 August), Chelsea have revived their interest in Zaha but their priority remains to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before Thursday’s (1 September) deadline.
Zaha, who has also been linked with fellow London club Arsenal, is into the final year of his contract at Crystal Palace.
Whelan insisted the Ivory Coast international would be a better fit at the Emirates Stadium after the Gunners shipped Nicolas Pepe to Nice.
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think the Chelsea fit doesn’t sit right with me,”
“With Arsenal I think there’s a space for him – they’ve got rid of Pepe. I think he’d add something there.
“When I think about him going to Chelsea – with the link-up play, the players they’ve already got in that position – Sterling, Pulisic – I can’t see it.
“When you look at what they’re in need of right now, I just don’t think it’s a good fit.”

Zaha has already notched three goals in three games this season and has scored a total of 64 goals in the Premier League.
The Man United flop was left out of the matchday squad for Crystal Palace’s trip to Man City on Saturday (27 August).
