Expert: Celtic in line for ‘£5m’ Jeremie Frimpong windfall after source’s PL move reveal
Frank McAvennie has insisted it will be a boost to Celtic if Jeremie Frimpong joins Man United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said that if Bayer Leverkusen can sell Frimpong for between £40-£50million, it will be good business for the Celts.
The 22-year-old left Celtic for Germany in 2021 for £11.5million, 30 per cent of which the Glasgow giants had to pay to his previous club Man City.
According to the Scotsman (11 March 2022), the Celts negotiated a “sizeable” sell on clause into the deal with Leverkusen.
On 25 February, sources told Football Insider that the United are plotting a summer move for the right-back.
His current contract runs until 2025 and the German club are said to value the defender at between £40-50m, which could mean a sizeable payout for his former club.
When asked if Frimpong’s potential move is a big boost for the Hoops, McAvennie told Football Insider: “Of course it is.
“Everything counts but Celtic are in a good place at the moment. They are getting money, they have done well in business.

“£40/£50m, Celtic should get another £5m so that is a good piece of business. I think it was Peter Lawwell that did that.
“I think he is a good player as well. I do not know whether he would be too short for the Premier League though. But, what he lacks in height he makes up for in everything else he does. He would be an interesting one if he was to go there.“
