Expert cites ‘berzerk’ Neil Warnock as Liverpool tipped to suffer from ‘harsher’ ref decisions

Referees may be harsher on Liverpool after a strange statistic emerged after their recent win over Everton.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Reds’ extraordinary penalty record.

As per Opta, Liverpool haven’t had a penalty awarded against them in their last 46 Premier League matches.

This stat was front and centre of the debate after Anthony Gordon failed to win a penalty after being barged over by Joel Matip in Sunday’s (24 April) Merseyside derby.

Kenny insists referees do sometimes hold a bias and cited his time e working under Neil Warnock as proof.

“We used to have during my time with Neil Warnock,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“At half time, he would be going absolutely berzerk at the referee on the way back to the changing room.

“Then in the second half and we never got a decision, I wonder why. It’s because the manager had been going mental at half-time.

“If I was a referee and there was a 50/50, I would definitely give it against the manager who had just given me an earful.

“On the stat, what can you do? It’s a strange one. How can you address it?

“You can’t give them a penalty for the sake of it. Maybe it’s something referees will be harsher from now on?

“I don’t know but there is something with referees and things going one way or the other.

“I think that stat proves it.”
