Expert: Cristian Romero set to ‘celebrate at Hotspur Way’ after Tottenham twist

Tottenham will be able to cope even if Cristian Romero does not return to the side for “weeks”.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Romero, 24, played the full 120 minutes as Argentina beat France to win the World Cup on Sunday evening (18 December).

He is now in Argentina celebrating winning the World Cup while Spurs gear up for a return to Premier League action.

Romero is likely to be given time off after going all the way in Qatar, meaning he could miss several Tottenham games.

However, Wenham insists Spurs will be able to cope with his absence.

“I would obviously rather he was here with us but he has to be allowed to celebrate,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I don’t think the club will rush him back either. He’s out celebrating now then he will be given time off to recover.

“He might do that at Hotspur Way with the rest of the squad so he could be back sooner than expected. He just wouldn’t be available for selection for those weeks.

“We have plenty of options at the back and I think a realistic return date would be that North London derby on 15 January.

“That gives him plenty of time to get up to full fitness without putting any pressure on him.

“He should be allowed to celebrate without everyone at the club telling him to come home.”
