Expert dismisses ‘wrong’ Tottenham fans over ‘£10m’ Dele Alli transfer claim

Tottenham are not “missing out” if Dele Alli leaves Everton for nothing this summer.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Alli, 25, is still yet to start for Everton and failed to make it onto the pitch for the second successive game in Sunday’s (3 April) clash against West Ham.

Everton

The midfielder joined the Toffees on 31 January on a two-and-a-half-year deal, initially for nothing, with a final transfer fee to be paid based on appearances and other factors.

As reported by The Daily Mail (31 January) Everton will have to pay Spurs a £10million fee once Alli has made 20 appearances for the club.

This means Alli could leave the club for nothing in the summer but Wenham insists if this occurs, Tottenham are not losing out on anything.

“Once again Dele Alli was not selected for Everton this weekend,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Van de Beek got injured in the warm-up before they played West Ham and Mason Holgate, who isn’t a midfielder, replaced him.

“Alli was then an unused substitute. That decision to offload him and save £150,000 looks better and better every day.

“I’ve seen some people say Tottenham are missing out on however many million, £5million, £10million [if Alli leaves for nothing in the summer].

“That’s just wrong. We haven’t missed out on anything. He wasn’t contributing at all and Everton are now paying for everything.

Alli

“It’s two clubs and five managers who have realised he’s on a decline.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen to Dele but it’s not Tottenham’s responsibility anymore and that’s the main thing.”
