Expert drops ‘massive’ Rangers claim after confirmed news

Rangers will progress through the group stages of the Europa League.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton said that their opening game against Real Betis on 21 September is “massive”.

The Light Blues dropped into the Europa League after losing out in the second leg of their Champions League play-off to PSV Eindhoven.

Michael Beale’s side were seeded for the draw and were placed in a group alongside Betis, Aris Limassol and Sparta Prague.

The new boss will be hoping for a repeat of the last time Rangers found themselves in the Europa League when they progressed all the way to the final only to be beaten on penalties by Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Gers enjoyed a successful campaign last time round, beating teams like Borussia Dortmund in their run to the final.

When asked for his thoughts on the draw, Hutton told Football Insider:It is not the easiest group there is no getting away from that.

The first game is Betis at home which is a massive game and they want to get off to a good start. I think ultimately they will fancy their chances.

Rangers

Yes it is going to be difficult, all European competitions are but they will feel that it is a group they can come through.

Of course there is going to be difficult games there, especially away from home but I feel that they will be happy with that draw.
