Expert fires Erling Haaland warning amid ‘scary’ Man City claim
Noel Whelan has insisted Premier League sides should be “scared” of Erling Haaland despite his underwhelming Man City debut.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 22-year-old now has “a point to prove” in the opening games of the season.
Haaland spurned a number of gilt-edged chances as Man City fell 3-1 against Liverpool in the Community Shield on Saturday (30 July).
The Norway international was making his competitive debut for Pep Guardiola’s side after his reported £51million summer move to the club.
He has notched 134 career strikes to date and maintained a record of a goal every 87 minutes for former club Borussia Dortmund.
As per Sky Sports (31 July), Guardiola insisted he is not worried about the striker’s “incredible” ability despite his missed chances.
Whelan warned West Ham that Haaland will be “out to hurt” them on Sunday (7 August).
“The fact that he’s in these areas and making those movements is positive,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“It didn’t quite happen for him against Liverpool, but it will.
“I think teams should be scared, put it that way. He’s going to be angry and out with a point to prove in the first games of the season now.
“He’ll be out to hurt West Ham.

“He’s going to get the service, there’s no doubt about it – and we know the quality, devastating finishing he has.
“It was just a game that didn’t go right for him.”
