Expert fumes at Tottenham over ‘pointless’ Jamie Bowden and J’Neil Bennett snubs

It is “pointless” for Tottenham to keep J’Neil Bennett and Jamie Bowden at the club instead of finding them loans for the second half of the season.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Bowden, 20, was recalled from his loan spell at Oldham in January but will spend the rest of the season with the Under-23s.

Bennett, 20, returned from his loan at Crewe in November after he picked up an injury but a new loan move was not found for the player.

Wenham is disappointed Tottenham have kept several other Spurs youngsters at the club.

“I mentioned a few weeks ago that Lavinier was close to joining Charlton,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I don’t know why that fell through but that was a growing trend of Under 23 players coming back from a loan and staying here.

“J’Neil Bennett is one I was hoping we could find a new club for and that hasn’t happened.

“Jamie Bowden is another. He was on loan at Oldham and was recalled but has not been loaned out.

“He made 25 appearances for Oldham, it’s pointless for him to come back. They will both be gutted.

“I find that frustrating as I’m a big believer in the loan system. I think it really benefits these young players to go out and play regular men’s football.

“To come back after that, back to the comfort zone of the Under 23s, that doesn’t help anybody.

“One player who I believe was close to going was Brooklyn Lyons-Foster.

“I was told of interest in him but unfortunately he picked up an injury in the 23s home game against Blackburn and that ruled him out of the loan picture.”
