Expert hails ‘brilliant Chelsea signing’ after Aubameyang reveal
Noel Whelan has claimed the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could “make the difference” for Chelsea if they are to pressure the likes of Liverpool this term.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 33-year-old can handle the pressures of playing for a big club after his glittering career at the top level.
Aubameyang joined Chelsea from Barcelona on transfer deadline day (1 September) – signing a two-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
The former Arsenal star played under current Blues boss Thomas Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund, scoring 79 goals in 95 games.
He also notched 68 goals and 16 assists in 128 appearances in the English top flight.
Chelsea have won three of their opening six games and sit sixth in the Premier League – five points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.
Whelan backed Aubameyang to help the Londoners keep pace with the title challengers this term.
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “He’s gonna bring some pace and experience to Chelsea.
“He has played at big clubs and he knows the pressures. He had a great stint at Barcelona after a disappointing end at Barcelona.
“He’s got unfinished business in the Premier League, and I think it’s a brilliant signing for Chelsea. They were crying out for a number nine, and they’ve got one who knows where the goal is.
“Aubameyang has a fantastic relationship with Thomas Tuchel, too.

“If he can get the best out of him, then this signing could very well make the difference for Chelsea.
“It’s still early in the season, and if he catches fire – he could help Chelsea put real pressure on the likes of Liverpool in the top four.”
