Expert hails West Ham double signing plan after ‘excellent’ Broja update today

Alex McLeish has insisted Chelsea starlet and Southampton loanee Armando Broja could be an “excellent” signing for West Ham this month.

The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 20-year-old could take the pressure of Michail Antonio at the London Stadium.

A West Ham source told Football Insider earlier today (27 January) the Irons have narrowed down their striker search to Broja and Blackburn’s Ben Brereton Diaz.

This site revealed on Monday (24 January) that West Ham were preparing to hold talks with Chelsea over a potential deal for the Southampton loanee.

The Hammers are ready to test the Blues’ resolve to keep Broja with a late-window move.

McLeish admitted he has liked what he has seen from the youngster during his loan spell at St Mary’s.

He suggested the Albania international could be the “top-class” striker the Irons have been missing.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “We’ve spoken about Antonio and the pressure on him to score goals every single week.

“That is without the Hammers having another top-class striker.

“I’ve definitely liked the look of Broja. He looks as if he’s a guy who’s got a plan and a mission to make himself a better player.

“I like the cut of the guy. From what I’ve seen, if the Hammers are in for him, they’re going about their business excellently well.”

Broja has scored five goals in 18 Premier League games for Southampton this season.

He has just one first-team appearance under his belt for Chelsea.
