Expert in ‘no doubt’ over Declan Rice deal amid ‘huge’ Newcastle United claim
Frank McAvennie has claimed Declan Rice will choose Arsenal over Newcastle United this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said if Rice went to Newcastle he could “be part of something huge” but “has a feeling” he will be more keen to stay in London.
The 24-year-old will have 12 months left on his contract at the London Stadium come the end of the season but has made clear his intention to join a more competitive side.
It has been widely reported that the midfielder has rejected numerous new contract offers from the Hammers and looks all but certain to quit this summer.
Last month (31 March), Football Insider revealed that Arsenal have made the England international their first choice midfield target this summer and are prepared to go head-to-head with top flight rivals to secure his signature.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto (12 April), the Magpies have made contact with Rice as they join the race to sign him this summer.
When asked if Rice could be convinced of a move to Newcastle, McAvennie told Football Insider: “The city is brilliant, the people are fanatical but I would think Declan will want to stay in London.
“That is going to annoy the fans because it would be a lot better for him if he went to Newcastle rather than Chelsea or Arsenal.
“It will probably be Arsenal if he goes anywhere. They need quality players to come into the squad and there is no doubt Declan will play.

“For me, Newcastle would be a great move because they are on the way up and he could be part of something huge.
“Maybe that interests him but I have a wee feeling that he will stay in London.“
In other news, Kieran Maguire is seriously unimpressed with £550m deal and what it means for Newcastle United.
