Expert issues Casemiro claim after ‘surprise’ Man United development – ‘we know’

Casemiro is now a regular starter for Man United after impressing against Everton.

That’s according to former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the midfielder’s start to life at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag made headlines when Casemiro, 30, was left out of the starting XI for last weekend’s Manchester derby (2 October).

However, the Brazil star was handed a start against Everton on Sunday (9 October) and registered an assist as Man United won 2-1.

McLeish claims the midfielder has now nailed down his place in Ten Hag’s side after a series of underwhelming performances from Scott McTominay and Fred.

“Far be it from me to question Ten Hag but that is what he wanted to do,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“For him to be out of the derby was a surprise but you had McTominay in there who has been the new kid on the block for the past couple of seasons, you also have Fred who is Premier League proven.

“I think people forget that Casemiro has come from Real Madrid into the Premier League, these things take time. He needed to adapt.

“We know the boy is world-class and he is going to be a great player for Man United. It’s just about bedding him in and making sure he knows what he is doing.

“Casemiro will end up being a big, sort of, fixture in that team. It’s just a matter of time.”

Man United

Casemiro made 336 appearances for Real Madrid before signing for Man United.

The Red Devils are next in action against Omonia on Thursday (13 October).

In other news, a pundit has suggested Man United stars could desert the club as new Erik ten Hag plan revealed.
