Expert issues David Turnbull ‘guarantee’ as ‘wonderful’ Celtic v Rangers claim made

Frank McAvennie is backing David Turnbull to make his return from injury when Celtic face Rangers this weekend.

The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the midfielder will be asking Ange Postecoglou to play him.

Turnbull, 22, has not played since he suffered serious damage to his hamstring in 19 December’s Scottish League Cup final.

The Scotsman reported on 16 March that the playmaker is now back in full training ahead of his side’s crucial end to the season.

McAvennie is predicting Turnbull to play some role in Sunday’s (3 April) clash even if he doesn’t start.

“Turnbull is coming back but we don’t know how fit he is,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Is he fit enough to play 90 minutes in an Old Firm? I guarantee you he will certainly be asking to play.

“Everyone wants to play and Ange knows how good Turnbull is on his day.

“I think he could play some part, maybe he won’t be risked because we have a tough end to the season and we need everyone fit.

“So maybe he could play half an hour or something like that. I’ve missed watching him because I’m a huge fan of his.

“Ange will want him back playing so I think he will want to give him some minutes.

“It would be wonderful to see him back because he is a magnificent player.”

Turnbull has scored nine times and supplied seven assists in 34 Celtic appearances this term.

The Hoops will move three points clear at the top of the table if they beat Rangers on Sunday.
