Expert issues emphatic Luke Shaw verdict after Man United talks revealed

Alan Hutton has suggested Luke Shaw could replace Tyrell Malacia in the Man United starting lineup.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa right-back said Shaw grasped the opportunity to prove himself to Erik ten Hag with both hands.

The 27-year-old started for England in their Nations League game against Germany on Monday (26 September).

The left-back was on the scoresheet in the 3-3 draw.

Speaking to talkSPORT (27 September), the England international said he has “had chats” with Erik ten Hag over his reasons for Shaw’s lack of game time.

The defender added that he understands his lack of minutes and vowed to train hard while waiting for an opportunity to get back into the team.

When asked if Shaw could force his way back into the starting XI after good performances for the national team, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think so.

That was a shop window for him and I think he grasped it with both hands. I thought he was excellent, he got up and down the pitch well, his passing ability was there for everybody to see. I think when he’s on form and when his confidence is high he’s a great player, he’s a great fullback.

Man United fans are growing tired

He’s probably pencilled his name in at this moment in time for starting at the World Cup. I say pencilled because he’s not a definite, he’ll obviously have to come back to Man United and work hard and get in the team.

So it’s going to be a fight now between Malacia and himself. But I think he’s got all the attributes he needs to get back in to the starting XI.
