Expert issues emphatic verdict on Matt O’Riley on leaving Celtic – ‘we are hearing’
Frank McAvennie is adamant Matt O’Riley would rather stay at Celtic than join Crystal Palace.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said O’Riley’s “time will come” to leave Parkhead but insisted it will not be for Palace.
According to The Scottish Sun (9 October), the Eagles’ top scout Dougie Freedman was sent to watch the 21-year-old against RB Leipzig in Germany.
The midfielder is reportedly on Palace’s radar after they failed to bring Conor Gallagher back from Chelsea.
Newcastle United are also said to have watched the Denmark youth international against Croatia during last month’s international break.
The Celts confirmed the signing of O’Riley from MK Dons in January for £1.5million.
McAvennie insisted it is not time for the Dane to leave the Glasgow club.
“We are hearing it all,” he told Football Insider.
“Why would you want to go to a wee stadium in London? The money is great do not get me wrong but the time will come.
“I think the Premier League might be a bit quick for him. I think he is getting quicker every game.
“He came from the third division. It was a step up and he has taken it with ease to the Scottish Premiership. I think he will go, but he will not go yet.“

O’Riley has made 14 appearances for the Celts across all competitions so far this season.
In those outings he has provided five assists.
In other news, McAvennie has suggested David Turnbull is facing an extended spell on sidelines after Celtic injury update.
