Expert issues ‘frightening’ Jesse Lingard verdict as more ‘big’ Nottingham Forest deals predicted

Jesse Lingard’s reported wage at Nottingham Forest is “frightening”.

That’s according to former Aston Villa and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Forest’s latest signing.

Lingard, 29, was announced as Nottingham Forest’s latest summer signing on Thursday (21 July).

On the same day, The Times reported the attacker could earn up to £200,000-per-week after signing a one-year deal with the Premier League new boys.

McLeish is not surprised Forest are attempting to make “big” signings.

“Honest to god, it’s frightening that he is going to be getting that kind of money, especially at Forest,” McLeish told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild

“They have just come up from the Championship. What we have to say, is that Jesse Lingard had a brilliant loan spell at West Ham.

“Everybody knows that, that’s in the records. You can see that he is a player. When the shackles were taken off him and the pressure, mentally, you can feel at a bigger club, his mentality has really improved.

“He came back and was messed about a wee bit. He realised he had to get out of there. It’s not surprising that Forest are trying to get some big signings.

“I saw them in the playoff final and they will have to reinforce big time. For me, that’s a good start from Forest.

West Ham

“Lingard will feel the pressure of being the big name at that club.

Forest are not a small club though, hopefully he can play with the freedom he had at West Ham.”
