Expert issues ‘huge’ Rangers claim after £87m confirmed news
Alan Hutton has claimed Rangers and Celtic will never be able to compete with Premier League sides.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said the Scottish giants will never make as much money as their English counterparts.
Rangers’ most recent accounts revealed revenue had climbed last season to a club-record £86.8million, due in large part to their remarkable Europa League run.
However, Ibrox director Kenny Barclay acknowledged at the club’s recent AGM that relegated Premier League side Norwich brought in almost double that, £134m, despite no European football.
Hutton urged Rangers to work with what they have got.
“I just think it is the league, it is night and day,” he told Football Insider.
“You get relegated from the Premier League and get something like £60m in pay-offs. Scotland will never be able to keep up with that.
“Even if you do go on a good run deep into the European competition, it is never going to be that sort of money.
“It would be a different situation if Rangers and Celtic were in the Premier League and making this money, they could go toe to toe with some of the huge teams but it is not going to be that way.

“Yes it is unfortunate but you can only live with what you are bringing in. I think Rangers are sitting relatively healthy when it comes to money, transfer fees, European runs, that sort of thing.
“We will see come January. The team needs investment and I think we will get a better idea of that once we can see who they are actually going for.“
In other news, Hutton has suggested ‘biggest thing’ for Rangers after what he saw in person.
