Expert issues ‘huge’ Seamus Coleman claim as Everton star suffers ‘ligament damage’

Seamus Coleman is under huge pressure to remain fit and in form at Everton after Nathan Patterson suffered a long-term knee injury.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

Patterson was substituted by Frank Lampard during Everton’s 4-1 defeat to Brighton last week, with the Scottish full-back visibly struggling with his knee.

The Toffees boss confirmed after the match that Patterson had suffered a medial ligament injury and revealed a six-week timeline for the 21-year-old.

It’s a major blow for Everton, who currently sit inside the relegation zone and have a growing injury list that includes Alex Iwobi, James Garner, Michael Keane and Andros Townsend.

Dinnery echoed Lampard’s timeline prediction for Patterson and insists the injury piles pressure on club captain Seamus Coleman to perform.

It’s a long-term ligament injury and it definitely puts pressure on Seamus Coleman,” Dinnery told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

But he’s been a fantastic servant to the club and has never let them down.

So in terms of quality and experience coming into the side, Lampard won’t be too worried about that.

But there will be worries about keeping Coleman fit and injury-free now, as a setback to him will have Lampard scratching his head.

We’ve seen the likes of Ben Godfrey and even Mason Holgate play there in the past, but that certainly wouldn’t be ideal.

“Since arriving at the club, Patterson has made a bright start and he’ll definitely be a huge miss for Everton.”
