Expert issues ‘unbelievable’ Aaron Mooy claim after Celtic deal agreed

Celtic fans must trust Ange Postecoglou over the signing of Aaron Mooy.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Hoops’ transfer business.

Celtic confirmed the signing of Mooy, 31, on 19 July – with the former Huddersfield and Brighton star signing a two-year deal at Parkhead.

Postecoglou and Mooy worked together while the former was Australia manager between 2013 and 2017.

Mooy joined Celtic from Shanghai Port, where he has been plying his trade since leaving Brighton in August 2020.

The midfielder’s arrival was greeted with a lukewarm reception on social media but Kenny claims Hoops fans must trust their manager.

“Look, Postecoglou wouldn’t sign a player for the sake of it,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“You have to trust the manager and he has made some really good signings since he has been there,”

“He won them the title back so you have to trust his judgement. It sounds like he knows the player very well.

“I had that with Neil Warnock, it is good to have people around you who you know. That’s why he was signed.

“It’s not a five-year deal either, it’s two years. If it doesn’t work out then you cut your losses, simple.

“It’s early doors but you have to trust the manager and who knows, he might turn out to be an unbelievable signing.”

Mooy is best known for his time with Huddersfield Town, where he made 120 appearances in the Premier League and Championship.

He scored 11 goals for the Terriers before moving to Brighton in August 2019.
