Expert issues ‘unbelievable’ Nick Pope claim after what he saw at Newcastle United
Newcastle United star Nick Pope will prove to be a better signing than Erling Haaland or Darwin Nunez.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the England international’s future.
Pope, 30, made a host of game-saving stops as Newcastle drew 3-3 with Man City on Sunday (21 August).
Pope had kept two clean sheets in his opening two competitive games for his new side after joining the club from Burnley for £10million this summer.
Kenny maintains the stopper will prove to be the signing of the season.
“I told everyone, to get Pope for £10million is an absolute bargain,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He was unbelievable in the match. He made some very important saves in an unbelievable match.
“To get Pope from Burnley for £10million is possibly the best signing of the season. I said it before they even bought him.
“If they got him for that price then it is going to be an unbelievable capture. He has shown already, just after three games, how good he is.
“He had no chance with the goals but he showed his quality and that is only good for Newcastle and England.”

Pope joined Newcastle after being relegated with Burnley at the end of the 2021-22 season.
Newcastle are next in Premier League action against Wolves on Sunday (28 August).
