Expert issues verdict on Billy Gilmour joining Rangers or Celtic after journalist’s reveal
Frank McAvennie has claimed Billy Gilmour won’t go on loan to a Premier League club if he leaves Chelsea for the season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic and West Ham striker suggested a top Championship side or Hearts in Scotland as potential destinations for the 21-year-old.
The Scotland international currently has two years remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, as quoted by FootballScotland (29 August), Gilmour is on “stand-by” for a loan move away from Stamford Bridge.
The midfielder spent last season on loan with Norwich, who were relegated at the end of the campaign.
Gilmour is yet to start a competitive fixture of the Blues this season.
McAvennie has claimed the Scotsman won’t want a repeat of his season at Carrow Road.
“I don’t think he’ll do that again,” he told Football Insider.
“To go to a Premier League team it will have to be one at the bottom of the table, fighting relegation and that’s not his kind of game. So he’ll maybe go to a top Championship side.

“You could see Billy Gilmour going to Bournemouth or somewhere but they’re getting attacked, under pressure every week and that’s not his game. So top championship, I could see that.
“Or coming back to Scotland, but then again I can’t see him going to Celtic or Rangers so it would be Hearts, going to any of the other ones I think he’d be under pressure again.“
