Expert issues verdict on Liverpool signing their ‘Erling Haaland’ after confession
Alex McLeish has suggested Liverpool do not need to sign their own Erling Haaland this summer to keep pace with Manchester City next season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland manager admitted the ever-improving form of Luis Diaz means the Reds may not need a marquee signing this summer.
Liverpool finished one point behind City in the Premier League title race, with Pep Guardiola’s side having confirmed the prospective signing of Haaland, 21, from Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking to Sky Sports earlier this month (9 May), Jurgen Klopp confessed City will be significantly stronger with Haaland next season and that the deal will “set new levels” in the transfer market.
However, McLeish suggested the Reds do not need to copy their title rivals this summer.
Asked if Liverpool need a Haaland-type signing, McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “They’ll probably have their eye on some people that we don’t know about.
“We certainly won’t find out about it until they release the news on that particular day. Do I think they need a Haaland-type signing? I think Diaz is only going to get better.
“They’re already at a great level. The experience that they have is only going to increase their confidence levels. That’s going to make Liverpool stronger, whether they have someone in the pot to bring in or not.”

Diaz made a notable impact at Anfield after joining from Porto during the January transfer window.
He has scored six goals and contributed five assists in 25 appearances for the Merseyside giants to date.
