Expert issues West Ham transfer warning after what he saw in person this week

West Ham must add goals to their side after losing to Rangers in pre-season.

That’s according to former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Hammers’ recent loss.

On Tuesday (19 July), West Ham lost 3-1 to Rangers at Ibrox with Tomas Soucek scoring their consolation goal.

The Gers were 3-0 up before the hour mark thanks to goals from Tom Lawrence, Ryan Kent and Rabi Matondo.

The Hammers have also beaten Ipswich Town and drawn with Reading during their pre-season schedule.

McLeish was at Ibrox for the game and claims West Ham must add more attacking quality to their squad.

“Pre-season is about players getting their legs ahead of the new season,” McLeish told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“When they went 3-1 down, ironically enough, they pushed Rangers back quite a bit. Moyes made some changes as well.

“Some younger players came on who I hadn’t seen before and they were trying to impress the manager. They got a goal back, forced a couple of corners, created some chances but Rangers were worthy winners on the night.

“Moyes will be keen to get the Hammers up to the speed of the Premier League and to get a team that can compete like they did last season.

“They rely on their out and out striker so they need goals from elsewhere.”

West Ham

Jarrod Bowen finished as West Ham’s top scorer in 2021-22, bagging 12 in all competitons.

Michail Antonio finished with 10 while no other Hammers players reached double figures.

In other news, one pundit claims West Ham could sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for less than £10m this summer.
