Expert: Joe Rodon could secure permanent Tottenham exit next month amid ‘big’ development

Tottenham loanee Joe Rodon’s long-term future will be decided during the Qatar World Cup.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Rodon’s move to Stade Rennais was confirmed on 1 August and it is understood that the club, who are playing Europa League football this term, will have the option to make the switch permanent for a fee of £18million.

After a poor start to life in France, failing to win in any of his first three games, Rodon has now nailed down a starting position and has managed to score for the club during his nine league outings.

However, he is currently serving a suspension after picking up a straight red card against FC Nantes on 9 October.

Wenham claims Rodon could secure his long-term future with some impressive performances at this winter’s World Cup in Qatar.

“Joe Rodon is still playing for Rennes,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“We know it was a bit tough for him at the start but it looks like he has managed to get a place in that team now.

“It’s the same with the other loan players, we just have to keep hoping that he keeps impressing.

“The World Cup will be big for him too. If he can go there with Wales and make an impression on the world stage then that could go some way to securing him a permanent exit.

“Whether it is Rennes or someone else, if he really impresses in Qatar then that could pretty much secure his permanent exit and I think that’s what all parties want at this stage.”

Rodon only made three Premier League appearances during the 2021-22 season.

Two of those came in the final three games of the season but he only accrued nine minutes of action in those outings.
