Expert knows when Ange Postecoglou will quit Celtic after confirmed news

Frank McAvennie has insisted Celtic “deserve” to be competing in the Champions League every season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said Ange Postecoglou will stay at Parkhead until he turns them into a European competitor.

Postecoglou has been linked with numerous jobs south of the border, most recently with the since-filled post at Leeds United.

But, as quoted by the Scotsman just after securing the League Cup for the second time (28 February), the Australian reaffirmed his commitment to the Glasgow giants.

The 57-year-old said that people will be “surprised” by how long he stays with the Scottish club.

The Scottish Premiership leaders could earn a spot in the Champions League group stage once again if they win the league again.

Last season’s European efforts saw the Hoops finish bottom of their group having earned two points from their six matches.

But McAvennie insisted Celtic will improve in the top competition under Postecoglou.

I think he is here for the next few years,” he told Football Insider.

He is an honourable guy, he wants to do a job. He is here to take Celtic to where I want.

Celtic

I think Celtic should be in the group stage every single year. Once you get to the group stage you try and at least finish in the Europa League places. That is what Celtic deserve.

If Ange does that he will be an absolute genius.”
