Expert lambasts Tottenham after ‘unthinkable’ development – ‘I still can’t believe it’

The Tottenham Under-18’s recent loss to QPR was “unthinkable” and is a disastrous result for the academy.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Tottenham crashed out of the FA Youth Cup after losing 3-1 to QPR‘s youth side on 20 December.

Wenham was left furious with the result considering the gulf in quality between both sides’ academies.

“QPR are a club Tottenham have a good relationship with at youth level,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Usually when players are released from Tottenham they go on trial at QPR. They almost have the first refusal on our players.

“I could name 10 or 20 players who have gone to QPR from Tottenham over the last few years. For us to lose that game on that basis alone is disappointing, I still can’t believe it.

“When you add to that that it was a category one academy against a category two academy, that means we are miles above them in terms of facilities and coaches, it’s unthinkable.

“It was a real shock to lose that game and QPR deserved it on the night. We looked very, very tired. There was no energy.

“We were missing a few players who may have made the difference. Will Lankshear was suspended, Mickey Moore was with England, Jayden Williams is injured.

“They would have made a phenomenal difference to that team. It was a seriously disappointing result and we have to improve.

“There are no excuses. We have to be beating teams like QPR when we have the facilities we have.”
