Expert lambasts Tottenham fans as Lucas Moura ‘bombarded’

Tottenham fans must stop the “beyond strange” criticism of Lucas Moura.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Moura, 30, played the full 90 minutes on Tuesday (1 November) as Tottenham beat Marseille 2-1 to secure progression to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The winger’s performance drew criticism from some Spurs fans with leading fan account Talking THFC claiming that phasing Moura out of the side is “like putting down the family dog”.

Wenham was left fuming with these comments.

“I couldn’t disagree more strongly,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I find it ridiculous to bombard our own players with that sort of negativity. Especially players who have got more than enough credit in the bank.

“Look at the whole squad, who has actually done something when it has mattered? Who grabbed the ball by the horns when it has mattered? Well, it’s him.

“He has played for us for a number of years, he is very, very passionate. After the game, he was singing oh when the Spurs go marching in with the travelling fans.

“I find it beyond bizarre. He doesn’t moan when he is a sub and he came in yesterday when we were missing Richarlison and Kulusevski, Son went off as well, it would be really useful if our support could get behind the players.

“Especially players who can actually contribute and do things in games. The criticism is beyond strange and unhelpful at a time when he is chipping in.

“I’m not saying he should start every game but he is there, he doesn’t moan and he has scored bigger goals than most in that squad.

“That Ajax game, the Barcelona game, two at Old Trafford.”
