Expert: Leeds United fans gutted by source’s news today amid £100m Kalvin Phillips claim

Leeds United fans are disappointed with the sale of Kalvin Phillips as the club could have demanded a higher transfer fee.

That’s according to ex-Whites stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the midfielder’s imminent exit.

A City source has told Football Insider (30 June) that Phillips is pencilled in for medical tests on Friday as the deal now reaches its final stages.

Man City

The 26-year-old has agreed personal terms with City after they settled a fee worth £45m plus £5m of add-ons.

Kenny claims Leeds could have demanded more money for their star man even though they may shortly have £100million to spend on new signings.

When asked if Leeds could have held out for a higher fee, Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild, “Yeah, possibly.

“I think Leeds fans will be disappointed they haven’t got more money for him but I do think it’s good business for Man City.

“£45million for an England player who is young, if you add in the money they will get for Raphinha it is over £100million.

“That can be put back into the squad and they will be looking to do that as soon as possible. They need bodies in there and they have the money to do that.”

Phillips came through the ranks at the Yorkshire club and made his debut in 2015.

In total, he has 233 senior appearances for the Whites to his name.
