Expert: Lucas Moura can thrive for Tottenham at wing-back for these four reasons

Alan Hutton has claimed Antonio Conte will use pre-season to discover if Lucas Moura can play as a wing-back for Tottenham next season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs right-back said the 29-year-old’s pace, trickery, ability to assist and fitness all lend itself to the position.

Speaking to Football London (17 July), Lucas insisted he is “very, very happy” at Tottenham, despite the uncertainty surrounding his future.

The winger admitted next season could be his last with the Lilywhites and is determined to help them win a trophy.

The Brazilian currently has a year left on his contract and Spurs have the option to extend that for a further year.

When asked what Moura’s role next season could be, Hutton told Football Insider: “He’s played wing-back in pre-season.

“I think it’s a position where if you want full-backs or attacking wingers flying forward he fits that mould.

He’s got the pace, he’s got the trickery, he can assist, he knows what it’s like to be in the final third of the park so he can pick people out. I think moving forward, he’s obviously got the fitness as well.

So it’s probably something Conte is trying to figure out – can he fit in to his team in that position?

I don’t think we can kid ourselves, there is going to be a lack of game time in those front three positions for him. So maybe he’s looking to see if he can fit him into the team somewhere else.
