Expert names three signings Celtic must now complete after source’s reveal

Celtic need to sign a centre-back, left-back and holding midfielder this summer.

That’s according to ex-Hoops hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about his former side’s transfer business.

Cameron Carter-Vickers remains the club’s only senior addition this summer.

He joined on 10 June with a Spurs source told Football Insider the following day that Celtic have negotiated an up-front fee of £6million that could rise by a further £4million with add-ons.

McAvennie claims at least three more players need to arrive before the summer window shuts.

“We have spent money but there are three players Celtic need to sign,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“We need another centre-half to compete with the two boys that are there. I also think we need some cover for Greg Taylor.

“I criticised Taylor last season but he has stepped up to the plate. On the other side, Tony Ralston has Juranovic as cover.

“Taylor just has the kids, so another left-back would be good. Then a holding midfielder as well.

“I think we missed one last year. We were great going forward last season but sometimes you need someone who can break things up.

“I don’t think we realised the job Scott Brown did for all of those years. Those are the three, I would be delighted if we got those players in.”

Carter-Vickers made 46 appearances across all competitions during the 2021-22 campaign.

The defender scored four goals as the Hoops lifted the Scottish Premiership and Scottish League Cup.
