Expert: Newcastle United to spend transfer ‘war chest’ as ‘exciting’ deal confirmed
The appointment of Darren Eales will allow Newcastle United to spend a transfer “war chest” in the coming years.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Newcastle United confirmed the appointment of Eales, 49, as the club’s new CEO, on 15 July.
He joins from MLS side Atlanta United, where he helped deliver multiple trophies, the highest profits in the league, and record attendance figures during his time at the helm.
Eales has previous experience working in the Premier League, spending four years at Spurs between 2010 and 2014.
Wenham has lauded the appointment and claims Eales will help the Magpies to secure better sponsorship deals in the coming years.
“He is very well-respected and he was actually number two to Daniel Levy at Tottenham,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He played a big part in Brighton getting their American Express sponsorship for their stadium as part of their move.
“We actually opened that stadium for them, we were the first team to play there. Darren is really good at negotiating deals.
“He did some very impressive work over in America. For Newcastle, at a time where there is a global spotlight on them and with their improved player assets, it’s a real coup.
“That’s in terms of securing better sponsorship deals and more ways of legitimately bringing money into the club that will allow them to have a bigger transfer war chest in future windows.

“He is a great person to have around, he knows the Premier League.
“He knows that American market as well, it’s an exciting signing for them.”
